bad housewife ?

I feel like I've been a bad housewife lately...
I was sick for a good week straight & didn't do much...  & I just get so busy doing other things & come home and am so exhausted I don't want to cook or do dishes!
I even have a maid that does the cleaning! and we are banned from doing laundry monday-friday because of the drought so I don't even have to do that until Saturday!
but I still dread the thought of dishes!!!!!!!!!!
yesterday was unusually bad........
we went on a trip with the SOs about an hour away, and spent the entire day in the sun and heat & then on the way back our bus over heated and we had to stop and it was hot and riding a bus over mountains is no fun so I didn't feel great and I came home and realized that we had NO clean plates and our only skillet was dirty. no clean dishes=no dinner.
It's not that big of a deal for us to have no clean plates because we only own 6.
so I was whining to Lee about the dishes (I'm ok to admit that I whine sometimes) and he said "it's ok, you've had a rough day, go get chinese food from the bus stop"
yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
I have the best husband.
and even better... later that night HE did the dishes :)
he loves me too much.

I'm usually not that bad, I typically do the dishes twice a day because we have so few they all get dirty quickly, but yesterday, I was through with dishes. and got a delicious dinner out of it.

Today I cooked beef and noodles for dinner, a first since being in Grenada.  I found beef tips pretty cheap at the store so I thought I'd give them a go... I left them on low cooking while I went to the grocery today and when the housekeeper came she turned it off so they didn't cook quite as much as I would have liked, but still turned out good.  I had planned on making mashed potatoes too, but once again, the only pot I own had the beef and noodles cooking in it. ugh.
and later after dinner I made us peanut butter milkshakes with our new blender :)

In other news, I paid the deposit for our apartment today!! yay for a place with an oven and pots and pans!

I love my husband!

yesterday Lee and I celebrated Valentine's Day because he had his unified exams yesterday morning and was studying the eeeeentire weekend. so after his exams in the morning we headed for the beach! more about that on my other blog kelseycoghill.blogspot.com
after our beach excursion we came home and washed alllllll the sand and salt off and I headed to the orphanage.  Every Monday I go to Queen Elizabeth's Home and play with the kids there for a couple hours. Lee stayed home to study and prepare for a presentation he has to do in lab tomorrow (the studying NEVER ends!)
and when I got back we got ready to go out to eat for Valentine's Day.
I really wanted to go watch the sunset together... and I really wanted pizza (because like I said, I love it!!) and I've gotten pretty good at making most of our other favorite meals... so why pay for it in a restaurant, right?
and Lee really wanted to watch Star Trek... because we haven't watched a movie together in a while and we hadn't seen it and my friend Sherry gave us a  ton of movies to watch! and Sylar from Heroes is Spock!
so we went and watched the sunset, it was beautiful as always, and we just walked down the hill and got pizza from the restaurant on campus... haha even though we had full intentions of going out.
it doesn't take a whole lot to make us happy.
Pizza, popcorn, pop, and a movie! :)

but even better than that.... while I was at the orphanage Lee washed the dishes!!!!!!!!!!! hooray!!!! he knows how much I detest the dishes... that is true love :)\

rant

I just had a few things I needed to say to make myself feel better today

1. I am still mad about Conan getting kicked off of NBC. booooooo NBC! if my 2 favorite shows, the office & heroes weren't on that channel I'd boycott. well I guess I am boycotting b/c I don't have a TV

2. I hate doing dishes!!!

3. Adam Lambert is scary looking. end of story... I just caught up on the red carpet looks at the grammy's on eonline.  and why are these jersey shore people at the grammy's??

4. I really wish people would learn the difference between YOUR and YOU'RE.......  no one on facebook ever uses it right and it bothers me tremendously. and these people are supposedly educated.

5. I really really really really want a blender..... all I think about is making my own smoothies.  I have a very addictive personality & right now I feel like all my nutrition could come through a straw b/c I love them so much. Banana and Guava are my favorite.... but I want to try sooooo many more. and I don't want to spend $8EC everyday! and Lee doesn't think I need one! uuuggggghhhhhh.  I'd be a much happier housewife with a blender. there is a yard sale Monday. pray they have one!

6. and finally... it's COLD in my room!!!! I live on a tropical island and I wear sweatpants and a sweatshirt at home b/c it's sooooo cold. and I can't adjust the thermostat. it's on 80 and cold air is pouring out on me :(

ok I'm done... and I feel much better

new

I decided to create another blog... separate from my "Grenada" blog to talk about being a housewife... because today I realized that's what I am, and I am actually loving it.  I love to make my husband happy... and I don't feel less of an empowered woman because of it. I don't feel bound by my new role.... I feel privileged to have the opportunity to do so.  I've heard lots of people say how delicate the first year of marriage is, and thankfully our first 5 months has gone much much much better than I could have ever hoped for, but if there is something that I can do to further nurture this relationship, then that sounds good to me.

True, I still hate and despise doing dishes...I am doing them, and multiple times a day because we only have 4 plates, bowls, spoons etc... but this morning I woke up at 9 and Lee had already left for lab at 8, I realized that there weren't any clean bowls because we had used them all the night before and I didn't do dishes after dinner.... and so there wasn't a clean bowl for Lee to have cereal this morning. and I genuinely felt bad.  This poor boy has been working and studying 8am-11pm basically everyday since we got here, and he couldn't even have cereal this morning b/c there wasn't a clean bowl...
could he have washed a bowl out himself? well yes... but still, I really feel like it's my job right now to not add any additional stress to his life.  is a dirty bowl stress? YES. there are people in his classes crying about the workload... people have already dropped out... a friend of Lee's is paying me to go to the grocery for him because he doesn't have time to get his own food!
medical school is pure madness.
and if I can make it the tiniest bit easier on Lee by making sure he has a clean cereal bowl in the morning.... then that's what I'm going to do.
because I love him...
and lets face it. he'll pay me back someday =)
